September News 2nd entry

September is almost over!! Wow!! We have been very busy!! In English, we have covered 4 types of sentences, subjects and predicates, compound subjects and compound predicates.  There will be a test on subjects and predicates in two weeks.
We are reading Mother Fletcher's Gift in Reading and will have a test this coming Thursday.  Please study vocabulary and try to answer comprehension questions at end of story as a way to review and check your understanding.
Paragraph of the week homework assignments are showing signs of improvement.  Don't forget to indent, begin with a topic/intro sentence, add 3-5 supporting detail sentences and close with a concluding idea.  You also have to brainstorm on back of checklist, have  a parent check and sign your rough draft, and type or write your final draft in ink.
Many students are not turning assignments in on time. Remember, you have 3 days after due date to turn papers in with points deducted.  After the 4th day, IT'S A ZERO!!! Parents please continue to check Edline for missing assignments and progress.
I am in need of donated items.  I need tissues, dry erase markers, colored pencils, crayons, glue, and hand sanitizer.  Thanks to those who have donated already!!

September News

Can't believe September is already here!!! I am new to the blogging world so bear with me as I add new items and links throughout the year.  So far in Rdg/Lang. arts class we have been learning about the writing process.  We reviewed the 5 step writing process and moved into the prewrite step with The Four Square Writing Technique.  The students should be able to use this helpful tool to generate and brainstorm great ideas for writing topics!!! Ask them to show you what they've learned!!! I will try to keep this page updated for you with news and important information.
We journal every day in class.  It is very important that your child bring in a steno notebook with spiral on top.  Please let me know if this is a problem for your family to purchase one.  You can find them at Family Dollar or Dollar General for only $1.
Please note that my email has changed to lcoleman@access.k12.wv.us
